Getting books into the hands of children is directly promoting literacy and lending support to the learning environments of children. This program was designed not only to get books into the hands of children, but to promote pride in ownership of books, and in the ability to read and learn from them. Four times a year, the Foundation finds corporate sponsors to donate books for every child in the first four grade levels (K, 1, 2 and 3). The Foundation then sponsors and invites children and parents to a “Bedtime Story Hour” at the school. Volunteer readers read several stories to the children that attend and then give each child at least one book to take home with them to start their own collections. Refreshments are served and children connect reading with a new and positive learning experience.
